  1. ENGLISH 6 Planning date :27-11-2022 Period 33rd UNIT FOUR: LESSON 1.3: A. Objectives: 1. Knowledge. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - stress the adverbs for emphasis. - ask and answer about the frequency of activities. - find out their “spirit animal”. 2. Skill: Students can improve Speaking skill. 3. Attitude: Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “Festivals and free time”. 4. Competencies: - Spend a suitable amount of time on studying and relaxing B. Method. Communicative approach C. Teaching aids. - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector or TV - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. D. PROCEDURES I. Warm up: (5’) Option 1: - Show 5 sentences, have students choose any adverb of frequency to put in appropriate place in the sentences given 1. He gets up early 2. She is late for school. 3. Lan practices speaking English. 4. Thao is a hard-working student. 5. I watch movies on the weekends. Suggested answers 1. He sometimes gets up early 2. She is never late for school. 3. Lan often practices speaking English. 4. Thao is always a hard-working student. 5. I usually watch movies on the weekends. The answers may vary. - Have students share their answers with the class. - Give feedback. Lead to the new lesson. Option 2: SONG: Adverbs of frequency - Let students listen to the song about “Adverbs of frequency”. Students can sing together while the song is being played. (Teacher doesn’t need to play all song). - Have students listen to the song and try to remember the adverbs of frequency they can hear. - Have students give answers. - Link from YouTube:
  2. - Give feedback Lead to the new lesson. II. Presentation: Pronunciation (10’) a + b. Listen to the sentences and focus on the stress of the adverbs - Play the recording (CD1, track 44). - Ask students to listen and pay attention to the stress of the adverbs. - Call students to make their comments on how the adverbs are stressed. - Give feedback, explain the pronunciation feature: In speaking, we often stress the adverbs for emphasis. - Play the recording again, have students listen and repeat with a focus on the pronunciation feature. c + d. Listen and cross out the one with the wrong stress, then read the sentences with the correct sentence stress to a partner. - Play the recording (CD1, track 45). - Have students listen and cross out the option that doesn’t use the correct stress. - Call students to give answers. - Play the recording again and check answers as a whole class. - Then have students practice saying the sentences with a partner, using the correct stress, encourage students to make up their own sentences - using adverbs of frequency – and put stress on the adverbs. - Call some pairs to read in front of the class. - Give feedback, correct students’ pronunciation if necessary. III. Practice (10’): Ask and answer

Option 1: - Emphasize the structure used to ask about frequency: How often do you ? - Demonstrate the activity by asking and answering with a student. - Have students work in pairs to ask and answer, using the pictures and the time phrase. - Have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class. - Give feedback and evaluation. Suggested conversation 1. A: How often do you go swimming? B: I often go swimming on the weekends. 2. A: How often do you play video games? B: I sometimes play video games after school. 3. A: How often do you do yoga? B: I usually do yoga in the afternoons. 4. A: How often do you play tennis? B: I always play tennis on Saturdays. Option 2: (for class with better students) - Follow the same steps as option 1. - Then have students ask and answer about frequency, using their own ideas. - Have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class. - Have another pair act out the conversation in front of the class without looking at the book. - Give feedback and evaluation. IV. Production - Speaking – What’s your “Spirit Animal”? (14’) a. You are doing a quiz about your free time activities to find out your “spirit animal”. Add three more activities and then ask your friend to complete the quiz. - Demonstrate the activity by asking and answering the first question with a student. - Have students work in pairs to ask, answer and add 3 more activities.
  4. - Have pairs take turns to ask the quiz questions and add up the points. - Observe, give help if necessary. Suggested activities 4. do: aerobics, homework, 5. play: badminton, chess, 6. go: fishing, hiking, shopping, b. Turn to page 125, file 13 to find out what your partner’s “spirit animal” is. Share with the class. - Have students turn to page 125, file 13 to find out what your partner’s “spirit animal” is - Have some student share their findings with the class - Give feedback and evaluation. V. Consolidation (3’): * Stress: Stress on the adverbs for emphasis * Asking about frequency How often do you ? VI. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - know more vocabularies about events. - talk about future events. - use the Present Simple for future use. 2. Skill: Students can improve their 4 skills (Main skill: Reading) 3. Attitude: Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “Festivals and free time”. 4. Competencies: - Spend a suitable amount of time on studying and relaxing. B. Method. Communicative approach C. Teaching aids. - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector or TV - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. D. PROCEDURES I. Warm up: (5’)

Option 1: Use the “New Word” activity – Part a, page 33, to warm up - Show pictures and festival activities, have students work in pairs to number the pictures. - Call students to give answers. - Give feedback. - Lead to the new lesson. Answer keys. 2.F 3.B 4.C 5.E 6.D Option 2: Clip: Glastonbury Festival - Play a video clip about Glastonbury Festival (about 2 minutes). - Have students watch the video clip and list festival activities they can see from the clip. - Have students give answers. - Check, give feedback. Festival activities students can see from the clip: - Music show - Magic show - Dancing - Playing games - Food stand - Making arts and crafts - Dragon and lion dancing => Lead to the new lesson. II. New lesson:  Activity 1: Vocabulary (17’) a. Number the pictures. Listen and repeat. Option 1: (If T doesn’t use this part for Warm-up) - Demonstrate the activity, using the example in the book. - Have students look, read and number the pictures - Ask students to work in pairs to check their answers with their partners - Check answers as a whole class - Play the audio (CD1 – Track 46) for students to listen and repeat. - Call some students to read the phrases again, correct their pronunciation and stress Answer keys. 2F 3B 4C 5E 6D Option 2: (If T has used part a. for Warm-up) - Give students an extra activity. - Have students close all books. - Use other pictures (different pictures from those in the book) to help students remember the new words they have learnt.

Read the text messages between Amy and Jim and answer the questions Option 1: - Have students read the text messages individually. - Have students work in pairs to read the text messages. - Have students answer the questions. - Remind students to use the Present Tense. - Have some students share their answers with the class (write on the board). - Give feedback. - Have students finish writing the answers in their notebooks. Consolidation (2’) * Vocabulary: Festival activities: music performance, fashion show, puppet show, talent show, food stand, tug of war, dancing, magic show Adjectives to describe festival activities: boring, sad, dangerous, fun, interesting, wonderful, * Talk about a festival: Time, place, activities, people, IV. Homework (2’) - Learn by heart the new words. - Do exercises in Workbook: Lesson 2 - New words – Part a, b and c (page 22). - Prepare: Lesson 2.2 – Grammar (page 34 – SB). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENGLISH 8 Period 33 UNIT 4: CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS. Lesson 6: Skills 2 A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to: - Listen to get specific information about a traditional dance of an ethnic group in VN - Write a paragraph about a traditional dance I. Knowledge: - Use lexical items related to the topic - have a brief overview of the customs and traditions. - Grammatical structures: lexical items related to the topic II. Competence: - Communication, ability to use language (write a paragraph about a traditional dance) - Self-learning capacity( find information about the customs and traditions) - Creative capacity ( write a paragraph about opinion). III. Qualities: hardworking, responsible and honest.

Warm up: - Answer the questions: 1.What are the three customs or traditions mi mentions? 2. what does Mi’s family usually do on Sundays? 3. What are the three customs and traditions – like most in your family? Describe them in detail. 4. How do you feel when you take part in the customs and traditions? 5. Why is it important to continue family customs and traditions? II. Pre - listening: 1. Discuss the question: Look at the picture. What tradition do you think this is? - Ss look at the picture and share what they know about this tradition with a partner. - Elicit Ss answers and have them share as much information as possible - Write the name of the traditional dance on the board : The Xoe dance 2. Complete the table: - Listen to Mai’s presentation and complete the table with no more than three words from the recording. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to Mai’s presentation on the xoe dance and complete the table. - Play the recording once. Ask for Ss answers and write them on the board - If Ss are not sure about their answers, play the recording again for Ss to check. Make changes to the answers on the board but do not confirm the correct answers now. 3. Guessing T/ F statements. - T has Ss work in groups of 4, look through the statements and guess which is T, which is F. III. While-listening - Listen again and tick true (T) or false (F) - Without listening to the recording again, Ss decide if the sentences are true or false. If they meet any difficulty doing this, play the recording again. - Have Ss compare their answers in pairs before giving T the answers. - Play the recording the last time to confirm answers for both 2 and 3 Tapescript: Today I’m going to tell you about the xoe dance , a traditional dance of the Thai ethnic group in Viet Nam. Thai people have followed this spiritual tradition for generations. The xoe dance expresses people’s working like and wishes for a happy and wealthy life. It is performed in both and private gatherings such as celebrations, festivals or family reunions. The xoe dace has more than 30 forms based on the first six ancient forms. The most popular form is the xoe vong or ‘ circle dance’ because it expresses social unity . People, young or old alike, join hands to make a circle around the fire and dance to the music. Besides the circle dance, there are dances with conical hats, paper fans or scarves. Old people say they shouldn’t break with this tradition because it reflects Thai culture and lifestyle. Ss are encouraged to write down the full sentences. - T moves around to give comments as there may not be enough time for checking with the whole class. 2. Write a description of the Obon dance. Imagine that you are joining a writing contest about customs and traditions and have chosen to write a description of this dance. Begin with the following sentence. There is a tradition in Japan that people perform the Obon dance during the Obon festival .. - Ss write their description based on the sentences they have made, beginning with the given sentence. Ss write this in groups of four on big pieces of paper. 3. Share and exhibition: - Ss exchange their descriptions to spot any mistakes. Share them with the whole class. - T collects some Ss’ work and present to the whole class. Give some corrections and comments. IV. Homework: - Rewrite the descriptions into your notebook - Write the description of water puppet show of Viet Nam - Do Ex E in the workbook. - Prepare Looking back and project Period 34 UNIT 4: CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS. Knowledge: Revise all the vocabulary, grammar points they’ve learnt, practice doing exercises and speaking with friends about the customs and traditions. II. Competence: - Co- operation, Self-study, work in pairs, groups.... III. Qualities: - Hardworking, responsible and honest IV. Skills: Speaking, writing V. Grammar: should and shouldn’t, have to VI. Pronunciations :-pronounce the words containing clusters/ sk/ , / sp/ , and / st/ B. Teaching aids - Student’s books, textbooks, projector. C. PROCEDURES I. Wram up: Ask sts to come to the board to write as many customs and traditions they know as possible. II. Vocabulary 1.
