Warm up: (5’) Option 1: Vocabulary (page 91) - Use the vocabulary part (page 91) and pictures for the warm-up activities. - Have students close all books. - Have students read the sentences (and the pictures), guess and give answers. Competencies: - love their home, their school and love their friends. B. Method. Communicative approach C. Teaching aids. - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector or TV - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. D. PROCEDURES I. Warm up: (5’) - Have students watch an animation: Mr. Bean doing housework. ( then answer the question: what household chores does Mr. Bean do? - Students volunteer to answer the question. - Teacher and other students follow and give feedback. Answer: clean the floor, clean the toilet, do the laundry, clean things, bake cake, clean the closet, vacuum the floor. => Lead to the new lesson.

When we get school, we are shown into our classroom with our new teacher. It is quite scary because I don’t know most of the children. Then we go to our first lesson. We have lots of different subjects and the lessons are really fun. My favourite subjects are art and English. ENGLISH 8 Period 28 UNIT 4: OUR CUSTOM AND TRADITIONS Lesson 2: A closer look 1 A. AIMS OF THE LESSON: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to : I. Knowledge: - use vocabulary related to the topic “customs and traditions” - pronounce Sounds: / spr / , / str / II. Ability:communication, ability to use language, self-study, co-operation III. Quality: responsibility, honesty, industriousness. B. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS: Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers,.. C. PROCEDURE: * Warm up: Brainstorming: CUSTOMS TRADITIONS - Ss discuss and list some customs and traditions of Vietnamese - Ss work in two teams – write them on the board. - T explains to Ss the words’ custom’ and’ tradition’ can be countable – uncountable. I. Presentation: 1. Vocabulary: - T asks Ss to explain some new words - T helps Ss if necessary. + Christian: someone who believes in and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ + Sponge cake: a soft cake made with eggs, sugar and flour but no fat ( bánh xốp) + Fire crackers: a firework that makes a loud noise when it explodes + Filmstrip: Đoạn trích trong phim + Offspring: Son or daughter 2. Matching: (1- P. 40) - Have Ss look at the table in the book. Make sure that they understand what to do. - Ss complete the exercise individually and then compare their answers with a partner. - Call some Ss to give the answers. Write them on the board. - Confirm the correct answers. Complete the following sentences with your own ideas.( 4-P.40) - Ss individually complete the sentences with their own ideas - then share their sentences with a partner - Have some Ss read their sentences aloud - Other Ss comment on these sentences. 2. Pronunciation: Clusters: /spr/and/ str? - T models and guides how to pronounce /spr/and/ str - T asks Ss to give more examples a. Complete the words under the pictures wit spr or str. Then listen and repeat.(5- P.40) - Ss complete the words under the picture with / spr/ or/ str/ and then compare their answers with a partner. - Ask for Ss’ answers and write them on the board. Don’t say if they are right or wrong. - Then play the recording for them to check the answer and repeat the words. Play the recording as many times as necessary. - Audio script: 1. Straw 2. Quality : -Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “customs and traditions” conducted by the teacher. - Ss can show their knowledge about customs and traditions in Viet Nam and in the world - build their love for some customs and traditions. B. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS Lesson plan, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, handouts... C. PROCEDURE 1. Presentation: - Shows ss two pictures and asks them to make sentences using should/shouldn’t Suggested answers: 1. We should help the old people. 2. We shouldn’t climb trees. - Ss give the form of using SHOULD/ SHOULDN’T. 1.1. Look at the pictures and complete the sentences with should or shouldn't. - Ask Ss to look at the pictures again and describe what they see. T may want to add that must is also used to express obligation. One of the differences between have to and must is that must shows internal obligation, l.e., you make a decision about what you must do. Give one example: We must clean the house before Tet because we think it will bring luck. - Have Ss read the Remember! box. Answer any questions from Ss 2. This is an open activity so encourage Ss to express their ideas as long as the advice and obligations are appropriate III.
