  1. ENGLISH 9: Week 24 Sunday, February 26th , 2023 Period 69 : UNIT 9. ENGLISH IN THE WORLD Lesson 1: Getting started I. OBJECTIVE: By the end of the lesson, students can: 1. Knowledge: - know some information aboutEnglish language - Learn some more about a global language and experiences in learning and using English - Grammar:Conditionals type 2, Relative clauses correctly and appropriately - Vocabulary: words related to learning English - Skills: Practicing skills 2. Competences: - Co-operation - Self- study - Using language to do exercises - Using language to talk about English as a global language and experiences in learning and using English. 3. Quality : - Positive about a global language. - Students know how to learn English in right way. - Ss are interested in doing exercises. - Ss are interested in English as a global language and experiences in learning and using English II. PREPARATION: 1.Teacher: book, planning, picture, laptop, projector 2. Students: books, notebooks III. TEACHING METHODS: Communicative approach, group Ss and T’s activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present . IV. PROCEDURE Warm up(5') Before Ss open their books, review the previous unit by asking two Ss to go to the board, each writng 10 compound nouns they have learnt/known. Give comments and correct any mistakes if needed Write the unit title on the board "English in the word". Elicit any information Ss know about the characteristics of the English language. Let Ss open their books. Ask Ss question about the pictures:
  2. E.g. Where are Duong an Vy? Who is standing at the board? what are they talking about? Ask Ss to guess what the topic of the conversation is and whrer it takes place. T may also ask Ss to tell about the English club they have taken part in: Do you take part in an English club? When is it? What is special about it? I. Pre- Listening 1. Vocabulary: - Ask ss to give some vocabulary relating to languages (parts of speech, nouns, verbs, adjectives, vowel, consonant, ) - Introduce some more simplicity (n): tính đơn giản flexibility (n): tính linh hoạt/mềm dẻo variety (n): thể loại (to) simplify: làm đơn giản, đơn giản hóa (to) operate: đóng vai trò 2. Dialogue: Activity 1: - Ask them to look at the picture and think of the answers to the questions: Where are Duong and Vy? Who is standing at the board? What are they talking about? - Ask them listen and read at the same time to check their answers - Call some ss to act the dialogue again to check their pronunciation a.Read the conversation again and find the nouns of the adjectives simple and flexible. - Remind them the way to form nouns from adjectives (adding the suffixes to an adjectives: ness, ity) Key: flexibility, simplicity b. Convert these adjectives into nouns. - Ask them to complete individually and then compare with their partners’ Key: darkness, stupidity, popularity, happiness, puntuality c. OBJECTIVE: By the end of the lesson, students can: 1. Knowledge: - Use lexical items related to languages and language use and learning - Identify the correct tones for new and known information and say sentences with the correct intonation - Vocabulary: Languages and language use and learning - Pronunciation: Tones in new and known information. - Skills:- speaking, doing exercises. 2. Competences: - Use lexical items related to languages and language use and learning - Identify the correct tones for new and known information and say sentences with the correct intonation. 3. Quality: - SS are encouraged to love the subject more and like to find information about English language. - Use right tones in speaking. II. PREPARATION: 1. Teacher: book, planning, picture, laptop, projector 2. Students: books, notebooks III. TEACHING METHODS: Communicative approach, group Ss and T’s activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present . IV. PROCEDURE Warm up(5') - 1 student goes to the board to write the new words.
  4. The whole class play the game: Guessing worlds. T divides the class into two teams, each team chooses one representative The representatives have to stand back the board so that they can’t see the words on the board. The whole class try to explain the words for the representatives to guess. The teams with more right answers wins the game. Topic: Languages and language learning: Words on the board: Dialect, translate, accent, official language, mother tongue, variety, fluenttly. I. Presentation 1. Mệnh đề quan hệ: - Mệnh đề quan hệ là mệnh đề phụ được nối với mệnh đề chính bởi các đại từ quan hệ (who, whom, whose, which, that) hay các trạng từ quan hệ như (where, when, why). Mệnh đề quan hệ đứng ngay đằng sau danh từ. Chức năng của nó giống như một tính từ do vậy nó còn được gọi là mệnh đề tính ngữ. Ex: The man is very friendly. Dùng để bổ nghĩa cho danh từ trước nó Ex: The girl who loves me is very friendly. Relative clause The bike which I have just bought is very fast Relative clause 2. Đại từ quan hệ a. WHO: Thay cho danh từ, đại từ chỉ người, có chức năng của một chủ từ. Lưu ý “Who” trong cấu trúc: .... Noun/ pronoun (person) + who + verb ..... Ex1: The man has met your boss. He come from Italy. S → The man who comes from Italy has met your boss relative clause Ex2: We have met the girl. She studies in the shool. → We have met the girl who studies in the school. relative clause b. WHOM: Thay cho danh từ/ đại từ chỉ người, có chức năng của một tân ngữ. * Lưu ý: “Whom” trong cấu trúc. Noun / pronoun + whom + subject + verb...... Ex1: We like the man. You talked to him yesterday. O O We like the man whom you talked to yesterday relative clause Ex2: Is that the man ?. You have been waiting for him. O Is that the man whom you have been waiting for ? relative clause c. WHOSE : Thay thế cho sở hữu cách (possessive cases) * Xuất hiện trong hai cấu trúc. - .... noun/ pronoun + whose + noun + verb - ..... noun/ pronoun whose + noun + subject + verb Ex1: The girl looks disappoited. Her examination result its so bad. The girl whose examination result is so bad looks disappointed. Ex2: That is the girl. I took her hat by mistake yesterday.

Ex1: She show me the table. It was made by her father. She shows me the table which was made by her father. Ex2: Do you like this car ? Mr. Tan bought it last month. e. THAT - "That" có thể được sử dụng để thay thế cho “who, whom, which, where, when, why” trong mệnh đề quan hệ xác định Ex: Here is the man whom/that you want to meet. -That “ thường được sử dụng sau THE FIRST , THE LAST, THE ONLY, THE VERY, tập hợp gồm con người, con vật, vật .... Ex: she is the only woman that I’d like to get married 3. Trạng từ quan hệ. a. WHERE * Thay cho trạng từ, cụm trạng ngữ chỉ nơi chốn (place) (eg.here, there, in that place.... ) * Thường xuất hiện trong cấu trúc: ...... noun/ pronoun ( = a place) + where + subject + verb ...... Ex: We visit the hospital. We were born there/in that hospital We visit the hospital where we were born. b. WHEN - Thay cho trạng từ, cum từ chỉ thời gian (time) (on that day, in the year...) - Thường xuất hiện trong cấu trúc : ...... noun / pronoun (= time ) + when + subject + verb ...... Ex: She will never forget the day. She first met him on that day She will never forget the day when she first met him c. WHY - Thay cho cụm từ chỉ lý do ( reason) (for this/ that reason) - Thường xuất hiện trong cấu trúc. ....... noun/ pronoun ( reason) + why + subject + verb ........ Ex: She has just told me the reason. She left the company for that reason. She has just told me the reason why she left the company. • Notes: Chúng ta có thể sử dụng: “ Preposition (in/ at / on / from .... ) + “which” để thay cho “where, when hay why”

TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS. Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, DCR & DHA on EDUHOME, handouts III. PROCEDURES A. Warm up BINGO (Teacher - whole class) - Ask each student to get a small piece of paper and write down 5 of the adjectives from the previous lesson - Prepare a list of adjectives: disappointing, exciting, amazing, boring, fantastic, terrible, funny, awful, great, gripping, scary, hilarious, violent, moving, socking, ... - Give instruction to the game: Every time the T calls out an adjective, if anyone has the same word, they cross it out. The first person to cross out all 5 adjectives shouts "Bingo" and wins the games. - Call out each word in a loud voice * Presentation: a. Listen and repeat. - Have Ss look at the picture, listen and read the speech bubbles - Play the audio - Ss listen and repeat - Play the audio again .Ask Ss look at the grammar explanation/ grammar table with the different forms -T. explains the use of the past simple tense with "to be" Was/were

OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to 1. Knowledge - pronounce most two-syllable adjectives learnt with correct primary stress. - exchange information about movies. 2. Ability - improve pronunciation and speaking skills. - develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems and other skills 3. Quality

Warm-up: * Teacher - whole class - Prepare 12 cards with a number (from 1 to 12) on one side, and an adjective and its meaning in Vietnamese on the other side, i.e. 6 adjectives and 6 Vietnamese meanings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 * Possible answers: 1. terrible 2. sad 3. Fantastic 4. khủng khiếp 5. tuyệt vời 6. funny 7. exciting 8. buồn 9. hài hước 10. thú vị 11. boring 12. chán - Stick the cards on the board so that the Ss can only see the numbers; make sure the adjectives and their meanings are mixed up - Divide the class into teams and ask them to choose two numbers at the same time - Turn the cards over if the match: Ex: sad – buồn, that team gets one point. If not, turn the cards to hide the words again and ask the next team to continue to choose numbers - Continue until all the cards are turned over. The team that has more points will win the game. II. Pre- speaking: Activities 1 * Pronunciation. - Use the CD to introduce the pronunciation: a.Stress the first syllable for most two-syllable adjectives. - Briefly explain the pronunciation feature / stressed syllable of 2-syllable adjectives Play the audio (CD2 - 21) and draw Ss' attention to the stressed syllable - Play the audio (CD2 - 21) again and draw Ss' attention to the stressed syllable
  14. For most two-syllable adjectives, they are stressed on the first syllable Play the audio and have Ss listen and cross out - Play the audio again and check the answer as a whole class -b. Listen and repeat with a focus on the pronunciation feature/ stress syllable Ex: awful boring action (movie) Have Ss practice saying the words with the correct words stress c.Listen carefully to focus on the wrong word stress and cross out - Give the answer * Answer: funny - Wrong. Stress is on the second syllable. - Practice saying the words: happy, busy, careful, lucky, healthy.. - Teacher shows an example to class, speaks louder for students to recognize the difference. - Teacher gives more explanation, gives more examples to make it clear. - Students practice reading the words in pairs, Ask teacher for help if necessary. d. Read the words with the correct stress to a partner. - Have Ss practice saying the words with the correct words stress - - Give back and correct III. While - speaking: Activity 1: * Practice the conversation, swap roles and repeat. a. Reading – Play role - A pair of Ss plays role and reads aloud the conversation. - Teacher asks Ss to underline some words that can be replaced. - A pair of students replace the underlined words with words given as models. Have Ss practice in pairs, role play the conversation in front of the class Swap roles and repeat using the adjectives and ideas/ cues given on the righ - Have some pairs perform the conversation in front of the class - Another pair makes a conversation with their own ideas, then present in front of the class. - Teacher corrects student’s pronunciation if necessary. b. Practice with your own ideas. (Production - free practice)

Student A (p.121- File 3) Teacher reviews the activities friends do together before letting them practice speaking. - Have Ss work in pairs, share their ideas. - Some Ss present in front of the class. - Teacher checks, corrects or gives feedback. Swap roles and do the same as the one before Demonstrate the activity by practicing the role play with a student - Have Ss work in pairs - Have student B turn to page 125, File 11 - Have Ss practice in pairs - Have student A turn to page 121, File 3 Ask and answer to complete the table - Swap roles and repeat b.Ask and answer with your own information (Production - free practice) - Let Ss practice asking and answering with their own information. - Ask Ss demonstrate the activity share their ideas with the class IV. Post - speaking: 1. Option 1: Go over the key points of the lesson with the whole class - Check these points by asking some Ss at random to demonstrate the points, e.g. write an adjective on the board and ask a certain S “How do you pronounce/say this word?”; or ask “What questions can we use to ask about a movie?” and appoint some Ss to contribute the answers 2. Option 2: Make question sentences with “What Was on at the Movies?

Ability: - Students can improve their 4 skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) - Students can develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations. 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “ Movie” conducted by the teacher. - II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, e-book, personal computer projector/TV, speakers. III. PROCEDURES 1.Warm up: * Option1: - Have Ss watch a short extract/trailer of a historical movie and answer some questions about the movie.
