  1. LESSON PLAN 8: Planning date: 10/12/2022 Period 40 UNIT 5: FESTIVALS IN VIET NAM Lesson 6: Skills 2 I. AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1. Knowledge. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Listen to get specific information about Vietnamese heroes - Write a paragraph about a festival in VN. 2. Ability: - Students can develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with heir partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations. - Students can improve their 3 skills. (Main skills: Listening and Speaking,Writing) 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “FESTIVALS IN VIET NAM” conducted by the teacher. - Students can show their kindness to their hometown, love for people around. II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, E-book, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers. III. PROCEDURES A. WARM UP: Quang Trung Vietnamese Saint Giong heroes - Ask volunteers to come up and add any words or phrases to the word- web connected with the topic of ‘heroes’. Accept all ideas and don’t correct anything. Then tell Ss they are going to listen to a passage about a Vietnamese hero and open the books B. PRE- LISTENING: I. Pre-teach vocabulary: Mythical: (adj) Commune: Motherland: (n)
  2. - T checks the meaning if necessary II.Set the scene Chatting: - T gets sts to look at the picture and sets the scene to get students familiar with the situation. - T asks sts following questions related to the content of the listening task: 1. Who is Saint Giong? 2. What did he do for the country? - T tells sts that they are going to listen they are going to listen to a tour guide giving information about the Giong Festival. - Ask Ss to work in pairs to read the questions carefully and try to predict the answers based on what they know.describing the picture and them answer the questions. C. WHILE- LISTENING: * Option 1: Ask Ss to work in pairs, describing the picture and then answer the questions. * Option 2: Tell Ss that they are going to listen to a tour guide giving information about the Giong Festival. Ask them to read the questions carefully and try to predict the answers based on what they know. Remind them to pay attention to keywords in the options. Play the recording and ask Ss to circle the right answers. Check their answers with the whole class. Key: 1. B 2. A 3. C * Option 3: Listen to the talk again and write answers to the questions below: 1. How different is Saint Going from other heroes in Viet Nam? 2. When do the preparations for the festival begin? 3. What kind of ceremony takes place after the procession? 4. What happens when night fall? 5. How important is this festival? - Have Ss underline key words in the questions. Play the recording. Ask them to write answers on a piece of paper. If necessary, play the recording again for Ss to check answers. Then select Ss to read out their answers to the class. Move around, helping Ss with ideas where necessary. Ask Ss to refer back to reading passages in Skills 1 for useful language and ideas, and note some necessary expressions and language as well as connectors they may need on the board. E. What Ss’ve learnt from the lesson. III. Project: TALENT SHOW 1. First, ask Ss to work in groups. Ask and answers the questions Suggested answers: 1. Chau van singing, xoan singing, quan ho singing and don can tai tu singing 2. Chau van is often performed in competitions or religious ceremonies in the north of Viet Nam. - Xoan is often performed in the Hung King Temple Festival or in other local festival in the Phu Tho Province. - Quan ho is often performed in the Lim Festival, Bac Ninh Province and local festivals - Don ca tai tu is often performed in the south of Viet Nam, normally in weddings, birthday anniversaries, and local festival. 2. Ask Ss work in bigger groups to do the project. Based on the result of Ss’ answers to question 3, rearrange the groups so that Ss who know how to sing these songs are distributed among the groups. Ss read the instructions in the book. Answers Ss’ questions if there are any. Ss will probably need to do some research outside of class before making presentations and performances. Start the next lesson with talent show. Have Ss perform, then ask the whole class to vote for the best performance. IV. Homework - Review the vocabulary of Unit 5 - Review Ex. 4,5 & 6 onto your exercise book

Knowledge by the end of this lesson, SS will be able to - listen and read the conversation between Duong and Nick about folk tales and then do some related exercises. - use lexical items related to characters in a folk tales, adjectives describing characters - make use of the learnt words and some expression to ask and answer about the folk tales II. Ability: - Students can improve their vocabulary, grammar and improve listening, writing, reading and speaking skills. - Students can develop their communication skill, creativity, cooperation, self- studying and problem solving, ability to use of language. Our school in the past and ask them some questions: • Who can you see in the picture? • Where do you think they are? • Is there anything in the small pictures on the wall relates to past and present? Ss give their answer as a class. T can write their ideas on the board Play the recording and have Ss follow along. After that, Ss can compare their answers with the information in the dialogue. 1. Activity 1: a. Matching: - Ss work in pairs to label the pictures with the words given. Allow pairs to share their answers before asking them to discuss as a class. Now have Ss work in small groups to talk about the changes to the school. Ask them to use the adjectives and adverbs in REMEMBER! box.
