- Lesson plan 8 – Week 14 Date of planing: 11/ 12/ 2022 Period 40 UNIT 5: FESTIVALS IN VIET NAM Lesson 6: Skills 2 A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge and skills - Listen to get specific information about Vietnamese heroes - Write a paragraph about a festival in VN. 2. Competence: - Improve communication, collaboration, analytical and critical thinking skills. 3. Attributes: - Be award of responsibilities with festival in Vietnam. - Have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “ Festivals in Viet Nam”. - Build good habits for themselves and kick bad ones. B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, projector. - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. WARM UP: - Brainstorm. Quang Trung Vietnamese heroes Saint Giong - Ask volunteers to come up and add any words or phrases to the word-web connected with the topic of ‘heroes’. Accept all ideas and don’t correct anything. Then tell Ss they are going to listen to a passage about a Vietnamese hero and open the books. II. PRE- LISTENING: Activity 1. Pre-teach vocabulary: Mythical: (adj) Hoang đường, tưởng tượng. Commune (n) Xã Motherland: (n) Quê mẹ - Check the meaning if necessary Activity 2. Set the scene: Chatting: - Get Sts to look at the picture and sets the scene to get students familiar with the situation. - Ask Sts following questions related to the content of the listening task: 1. Who is Saint Giong? 2. What did he do for the country?
- - Tell Sts that they are going to listen they are going to listen to a tour guide giving information about the Giong Festival. - Ask Sts to work in pairs to read the questions carefully and try to predict the answers based on what they know.describing the picture and them answer the questions. III. WHILE- LISTENING: Activity 1. - Ask Ss to work in pairs, describing the picture and then answer the questions. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to a tour guide giving information about the Giong Festival. Ask them to read the questions carefully and try to predict the answers based on what they know. Remind them to pay attention to keywords in the options. Play the recording and ask Ss to circle the right answers. - Check their answers with the whole class. Key: 1. B 2. A 3. C Activity 2. Listen to the talk again and write answers to the questions below: 1. How different is Saint Going from other heroes in Viet Nam? 2. When do the preparations for the festival begin? 3. What kind of ceremony takes place after the procession? 4. What happens when night fall? 5. How important is this festival? - Have Sts underline key words in the questions. Play the recording. Ask them to write answers on a piece of paper. If necessary, play the recording again for Ss to check answers. Then select Ss to read out their answers to the class. Elicit any corrections from the class as you write their answers on the broad. Key: 1. He is a mythical hero, who grew from a three-year-old child into a giant overnight 2. The preparations begin one month before the festival 3. A religious ceremony 4. There is a cheo performance 5. This festival shows the love for our motherland and the preservation of out cultural heritage. Audio script: The Giong Festival is celebrated every year in Phu Linh Commune, Soc Son District, Ha Noi. This festival commemorates the hero, Saint Giong. He is considered a mythical hero because he grew from a three-year-old child into a giant overnight. He is worshipped for defending the country from foreign invaders- the An. Although this festival is held from the 6th to the 12th day of the 4th lunar month, people start preparing traditional clothing for the procession and for various performances one month beforehand. During the festival, the procession starts at the Mother Temple and goes to Thuong Temple where a religious ceremony is performed. When night falls, a cheo play is performed. Then the festivities end with a thanksgiving procession on the 12th.
- This festival shows our love for the motherland and the preservation of our cultural heritage. IV. WRITING: Activity 1. Work in pairs... (P55) - Set a time limit for Ss to brainstorm ideas and write their notes. (use the web in 4 P55) - Move around, helping ss with ideas where necessary. - Write note. Activity 2. Now use a note to write.... (P55) - Refer back to the reading passages in Skills 1 for useful language and ideas, and note some necessary expressions and language as well as connectors they may need on the board. - Work individually to write a first draft. - Display all or some of the articles on the wall/ board. Other Ss and T give comments. Ss edit and revise the articles as homework. - Write an article about the festival. V. HOMEWORK: - Guide students to do the tasks assigned. + Complete the notes to write an article about this festival the school website. + Write an article about the moon festival for our school website. + Prepare for the new lesson LOOKING BACK + PROJECTS.

Knowledge: - Use lexical items related to the topic “ Festivals in VN”. - Use : Conjunctions: and, but, or, yet, so and conjunctive adverbs: However, nevertheless, moreover, therefore, otherwise. 2. Competence: - Work in group, work individually, work in pair, linguistic competence, cooperate learning and communicative competence. 3. Attributes: - Have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities. - Show their kindness to their hometown, love for their teachers and friends. B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, projector. - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Check up: - Write an article about this festival the school website. II. Warm up: Game: BACK TO THE BOARD - Ask Sts work in two teams. T gives a picture and rearrange the letters to label the picture. III. Vocabulary: Activity 1. Rearrange the letters to label the pictures - Ask Sts to work individually, then compare their answers with a partner. - Ask some Sts to write their answers on the board. - Give the correct answers. Knowledge: - Listen and read the conversation between Duong and Nick about folk tales and then do some related exercises. - Use lexical items related to characters in a folk tales, adjectives describing characters. - Make use of the learnt words and some expression to ask and answer about the folk tales. 2. Competence: - Improve their vocabulary, grammar and improve listening, writing, reading and speaking skills. - Develop their communication skill, creativity, cooperation, self- studying and problem solving, ability to use of language. 3. Attributes: - Have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “Folk tales”. - Build their love for people, hometown, country. B. Knowledge and skills - Listen for specific information about a natural wonder of Viet Nam. - Write an article describing a wonder of Viet Nam. 2. Competence: - Develop listening and writing skills. - Develop independent working cooperative learning and communicative competence. 3. Attributes: - Be award of responsibilities with ethnic groups of Vietnam. - Have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “wonders of Viet Nam”. - Build good habits for themselves and kick bad ones. B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, projector. - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm-up: Chatting ( T- ss) Have you ever visited Ha Long Bay? Where is it located? Do you think it is a place of interest? Lead to the lesson. II. Pre-listening: Activity 1. T/F statement prediction: ( ex 1 p57) - Ask Sts to read the instruction carefully and remind them to underline the key words in the statements. - Ask Sts to guess which statement is T/ F. (individual) - Give the answer. III. While- reading: Activity 1. Check Ss’prediction: - Play the recording ss listen and check their answer. - Correct and give feedback. Gap fill: (Ex 2-p 57- Listen again and complete the data chart) - Have Sts to work in pairs to discuss the missing word for each gap from the information they have heard in 1.
- - Play the recording again and allow Sts to fill in the gaps as they listen. - Ask Sts to share their answers in pairs before playing the recording the final time to allow pairs to check their answers. Writing an article to describe a wonder of Viet Nam: ( group work) - Have Sts study the guidelines on how to write a passage describing a place in the REMEMBER! box. - Set up the writing activity. Sts should use their notes in 3 and the notes in the REMEMBER! box to help them to structure their writing. - Help them get started by writing the opening sentence on the board, based on the audio script: It is said that [wonder] is a [adjective] place - If there is not enough time ss can finish at home. V. Homework: - Write an article about a wonder of Viet Nam. - Prepare for looking back.

Knowledge and skills - Know some lexical items related to changes in transport systems, family groups and school life in Viet Nam in the past and present. - Understand the conversation. 2. Competence: - Be confident and friendly with the new school environment - Develope listening, speaking skills and cooperative interactio 3. Attributes: - Cooperate, respect, having right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers in the new school B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, projector. - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm up: chatting II. Presentation: * Set the scene: - Write the word "Past and Present" on the board and ask Ss to give another expression for the phrase. When they have given the phrase Then and Now, ask them to look at the picture and the heading. Our school in the past and ask them some questions: Who can you see in the picture? Where do you think they are? Is there anything in the small pictures on the wall relates to past and present? - Give their answer as a class. T can write their ideas on the board - Play the recording and have Sts follow along. After that, Ss can compare their answers with the information in the dialogue. Activity 1. Matching: - Have Sts to work in pairs to label the pictures with the words given. Allow pairs to share their answers before asking them to discuss as a class. Read the statements and decide whether the information is T, False or NG - Have Sts to read the dialogue again to do this exercise. Ss exchange their answers with a classmate.
