Lesson plan 6: Week 3 Planning date: 25/9/2022 Period 7 UNIT 1: HOME Lesson 2.3: Pronunciation and Speaking ( page 11) A.AIMS OF THE LESSON By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to: 1.Knowledge: - use present simple to talk about housework their family members do - Know how to pronounce /I/ sound 2. Ability: - Improve speaking skill. 3. Quality : - Have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities. - Love family and share household chores with family members. B.TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. Lesson plan, Ss’ book , workbook, projector / T v C.PROCEDURES I. Warm up: - Greetings. - Brainstorming: HOUSEWORK + clean the house + wash dishes .. - T divides the class into 2 groups - Lead to the new lesson II. Pre-speaking. 1.Pronunciation: -Have Ss to close all books. -Show some pictures ,then ask Ss to tell what they see in those pictures ( kitchen, living room, dinner, shopping, sister, .), pay attention to the /I/ sound. -Have Ss to read loudly 2. Listen: -Have Ss listen (b, c) and cross out the word with different sound (c ) - Ask Ss to read the words again - Explain the rules, give more example to make it clear. ( the /I/ sound often happens with words containing letters i or y : balcony, village, , or sometimes letter e : emergency, event, .) III. While-speaking • Practice: Option 1.Ask and answer ( controlled practice) -Use real things and pictures to review the words: ( breakfast, lunch, dinner, laundry, dishes, shopping, living room, kitchen ) - Ask some Ss as model. - Have SS practice in pairs, ask and answer about the family and the housework. Ex: S1. Do you often do the housework at home ? S2. Yes , I do S1. Who cooks meals in your house ?

(Free practice ) ( for class with better Ss) - Demonstrate the activity by practicing role play with a student - Remind Ss to use the right collocation of “ make” or “do” - - Have pairs point to the pictures, practice asking and answering about the family members and housework. - Call some pairs to read in front of the class - Then have Ss use their own ideas with other housework ( not looking at the textbook) - Give feedback IV. Post-speaking 1. Doing a survey: What housework do your family members do ? (What housework does your mother/ father do ?) • Work in groups of four ( 3 families and 1 reporter ) - After completing the survey, the reporter will report the result in front of the class Ex: In Lan’s family, her father cleans the house. Knowledge. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
  3. - make use of the learnt words and some useful expressions to ask and answer about places (villages, towns and cities). - develop listening skills on specific target when listening to a monologue. 2. Ability: - Students can develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations. - Students can improve their 3 skills. (Main skills: Listening and Speaking; Sub- skill: Reading) - Students can distinguish the difference among places like cities, towns and villages. 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “Home” conducted by the teacher. - Students can show their kindness to their hometown, love for people around. II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, E-book, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers. III. PROCEDURES A. Warm up: 1. Option 1: Finding friends - T divides class into 3 teams and give them the cards containing the specific names of the cities, towns and villages around their areas. (Pho Chau; Son Hong; Son Quang; Son Diem; Ha Tinh; Tay Son; Duc Tho; Vu Quang; Vinh; Son Trung) - T then writes the 3 words (city/town/village) or sticks these labeled cards on the board. - T sets the time and gets the sts to classify the names into the correct columns. Which group finishes first will win. 2. Option 2: Chatting T asks sts to answer the following questions: - What is a city/village/town? - Or Does a city have a hospital, big buildings and schools? - Is a village in the city? 3. Option 3: Predicting: T shows the 3 pictures and asks sts to guess what they are.
  4. - T leads to the lesson. B. PRE - SPEAKING I. Pre-teach vocabulary - T uses context to present the new words. - T gets students to look at the words (east, north,south,west and central) in the book/on the screen. - T asks sts to label the map, listen and read. - T checks the meaning if necessary - east (n) - west (n) - north (n) - south (n) - center (n) + Checking understanding: miming (T points to each direction and asks sts to figure out which direction the T is pointing). II. Set the scene - T gets sts to look at the picture and sets the scene to get students familiar with the situation. - T asks sts following questions related to the content of the listening task: - What is it? - Is it a town or a village? - Is it in Viet Nam? - T tells sts that they are going to listen to a boy named Lucas talking about his hometown.

Comprehension questions - T asks sts to answer the questions. - Sts answer individually 1. Where is Burano Island? ( - It’s in the North of Italy.) 2. Is Luca’s village small? (- No. It’s a big village.) 3. What’s it famous for? (- It’s famous for the painted houses.) C. WHILE - SPEAKING 1. Controlled practice 1. * Option 1: - T gets sts to practice making the questions and answering about Luca’s village as shown above in open pairs, then closed pairs. * Option 2: - T gets sts to listen and practice the useful language (page 12) in open pairs, then closed pairs. 1. Where is Vancouver? ( - It’s in the West of Canada ) 2. Is it a town? (- No. It’s a big city.) 3. What’s it famous for? (- It’s famous for ít big buildings and beautiful parks.) 2. Controlled practice 2. (Speaking part - page 13) - T makes example sentences. - T asks students to work in open pairs (2 pairs presenting in front of the class), then closed pairs, talk about Colmar or Clovelly. - Teacher checks and corrects. 1. Where is Colmar? - It’s in the east of France. 2. Is it a big city? - No. It’s a big town. 3. What’s it famous for? - It’s famous for beautiful houses and museums. 4. What’s the weather like? - It’s warm.

HOMEWORK Guide students to do the tasks assigned. - Teacher guides students to have a look back on the lesson at home, do exercises in workbook and get ready for the next lesson. - Students : + learn new words, do exercises in workbook (a,b,c page 6) and practise talking about their hometown. + prepare for the new lesson. Pre-reading. 1.Set the scene: Option 1 :- Have Ss guess: Which city is it ? - It is in the southwest region of Viet Nam. - It is in the Mekong Delta. - It is famous for the floating market and Ninh Kieu Wharf. - It begins with letter “C” - T asks Ss to give answers. - Show the map and have Ss find Can Tho on the map. Option 2 :-T shows some pictures or a short clip of floating market, ask Ss some questions about this place. Do you know this market? Where is it ? Have you ever been there? What do you know about it ? -T gets the answers, then teaches some new words. 2. New words. Ability: - Students can improve their two skills Listening and Writing - Students can develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations. - Students can know how to write to give an opinion about leisure activities 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “leisure activities” conducted by the teacher. - Students can give opinion about leisure activities - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, e-book, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers. III. PROCEDURES A. Warm up: Chatting What do you usually do with your friends in your free time ? - Ask Ss to tell each other what they usually do with their friends - Ask some pairs to volunteer to tell the class if they find each other’s answers interesting B. Pre-writing I. Listen to the radio programme and answer the questions (2 page 13) - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to a radio programme - Ask Ss to look at the questions and underline the key words before T plays the recordimg Key: 1. Then T asks Ss to decide which leisure activities are more common in the countryside and why. T writes the word "countryside" on the board. Brainstorm words and phrases describing activities which take place in the countryside.

Comprehension questions Ask Ss to try to answer the questions without referring to the conversation first. Then Ss refer to the conversation again for the correct answers. Post-reading Activity 1: Discussion Have Ss work in small groups to discuss and tick the correct box and look for expression (s) to support their answer. Suggested answers: He likes it.... " I live more happily here, and there's still a lot more to explore" Activity 2 : Game: Countryside charades. T divides the class into two teams for this game. They can give themselves a relevant team name such as the "horses" and the "buffaloes". Play charades with the countryside activity vocabulary from activity 2 and the Ss's list on the board. To increase the fun element, give the teams a time limit of 10 seconds to guess the activity before it moves to the other team. T keeps score on the board and announces the winning team at the end.
