  1. LESSON PLAN 6: Planning date: 4/12/2022 Period: 37 UNIT 4: FESTIVALS AND FREE TIME Lesson 2.3 Pronunciation +Speaking (p. 35) A. AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1. Knowledge. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + identify the sound changes in speaking and listening. + know some activities in each festivals . + use pronunciation: what time.........? 2. Ability: - Students can improve their pronunciation in use . - Students can develop the ability to communicate with their partners, to self-studying and problem solving. 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities. B. TEACHING AIDS. - Teacher’s aids: Student’s book and teacher’s book, class CDs,laptop,TV, flashcards, projector. - Student’s aids: Student’s book , notebooks, workbook. C. PROCEDURES: I. Warm-up: Chatting: Teacher asks Ss some questions: + What time does the music performance start?
  2. +Does the cafe open in the morning? + where is the festival? + What activities can you do there? II. Pre- speaking: *pronunciation. - Use the CD to introduce the pronunciation: -Teacher shows an example to class, speaks louder for students to recognize the difference. -Teacher gives more explanation, gives more examples to make it clear. -Have students listen and repeat, focus on the underlined words (b/p. 35) Answer: What time . ? /wʌtaɪm/. - Have students listen and cross out the one with the wrong sound changes (c/p. 35) Answer: What time does it end? – Wrong. No connected speech. - Some students say again. - Students practice reading the words in pairs, pay attention to the sound changes. - Ask teacher for help if necessary. III.While- speaking: *Practice the conversation, swap roles and repeat . 1.Reading – Play role - A pair of Ss plays role and reads aloud the conversation. - Teacher asks Ss to underline some words that can be replaced. - A pair of students replace the underlined words with words given as models. - Have Ss practice in pairs, role play the conversation. Example: + a fashion show – food stands + starts – opens + 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. .
  3. - Another pair makes a conversation with their own ideas, then present in front of the class. - Teacher corrects student’s pronunciation if necessary. 2. Speaking: Let’s go to the Festival: - Teacher reviews the activities friends do together before letting them practice speaking. - Have Ss work in pairs, share their ideas. - Some Ss present in front of the class. - Teacher checks, corrects or gives feedback. Swap roles and do the same as the one before IV. Post- speaking: 1.Option1: Complete the dialogue (the present simple for future) - Ask Ss to complete the conversation individually. A: What can we do tonight? B: There’s a music show. It ______ at 7 p.m. A: What time does it ______? B: It _____ at 10 p.m. A: OK. Let’s do it. 2.Option2: Make question sentences with “ what time...............” Example: what time do you go to school? V. Homework: - Write a similar dialogue about inviting your partner to join in a festival. - Prepare new lesson.
  4. Planning date: 5/12/2022 Period 38: UNIT 4: FESTIVALS AND FREE TIME Lesson 3.1 New words +U.language + Listening + Speaking I. AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1. Knowledge. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - know how to ask and answer about a Vietnamese festival’s activities.using the new words in the book and some related words in the same topic. - listen to a monodialogue to develop listening skill on specific target . 2. Ability: - Students can improve their 4 skills (Main skills: Listening and Speaking; Sub-skill: Reading) - Students can develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in conversation situations. 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “Vietnamese festival’s activities” conducted by the teacher. - Students can show their happiness to the festivals in their homeland . II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, ebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers. III. PROCEDURES Warm up: Chatting - T asks sts to answer the question: - Do you like The Mid-Autumn festival? - What do you do before the festival? - What do you do during the festival? - T leads to the lesson. A. PRE – SPEAKING * Pre-teach vocabulary - Teacher uses pictures, videos, explanation to elicit the meaning of new words. New words:
  5. 1. firework (n); (visual) 2. lucky money (n); (visual) 3. gift (n); (visual) 4. parade (n); (video) 5. celebrate (n); (video) 6. traditional (a); (explanation) - Have students listen and repeat. (chorally – individually) Teacher checks and corrects the pronunciation if necessary - Teacher checks Ss’ vocabulary. Checking new word: Number the pictures (exercise a/p.36) - T tells Ss to do the task individually. - Divide the class into pairs and have them check their answers with their partners. - Check answers as a whole class. - T plays the record. Discuss the things you thinks poeple do during the holiday - Teacher elicits the request of the task. Example: 1. People eat traditional food at Christmas. 2. Vietnamese women wear Ao Dai on New Year’s Day. 3. People wear costumes on Halloween Activity 2: Listen to some people talking about traditional festivals. Are all the festivals celebrated in the same country? - Teacher has students guess first - Have students listen and give answers. - Check answers as a whole class Answer: No. Activity3: Listen and draw lines. - Have students listen and draw lines. WHILE - SPEAKING * Activity1: exercise a- p. 37 you are telling a friend overseas about Mid- autumn festival. Take turn talking about what people do before and during the festival - T gets sts to practice making the questions and answering about what people do before and during the Mid- autumn festival in open pairs, then closed pairs.(Using word cues in text book) - Teacher gives feedback and corrects spelling if necessary. Example: A: What do people do before the Mid- autumn festival? B: Hmm. Let me see.. They buy some lanterns from the market. A: What do people do during the Mid- autumn festival? B: Umm.They watch lion dance * Activity 2: exercise b- p. 37 Talk about other festival you know - T makes example sentences. - T gets sts to practice asking and answering about other festivals in open pairs, then closed pairs. Example: A: What do people do before the New Year festival? B: Let me see.. ................................................... A: What do people/ do during the New Year festival? B: Well...................................... C. POST SPEAKING *Retell : Speak some activities you often do in the New Year / the Mid- autumn festivals .

Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: - read an article about a festival in Vietnam - write text messages about a festival. II. Ability - Students can improve reading and writing skills. - Students can develop their communication skill, creativity, cooperation, self- studying and problem solving. III. Quality - Ss can show their knowledge about festivals in Viet Nam and in the world - Build their love for family, homes and classmates. B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, Projector - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm-up: Play a game: Say the festival - Divide class into 2 teams to play the game - T gives clues to students to guess the festivals. - The faster team will get the point - T corrects and gives point to the correct team. Answer: 1. masks, pumpkins, scary => Halloween 2. decorate trees, carols, December 24th => Christmas 3. fall, August, moon cakes => Mid-Autumn Festival 4. firework, Chung cakes, 1st day of the year =>Tet holiday II. Pre-reading 1. Pre- teach vocabulary. - Teacher uses visuals, videos, and explanation to elicit new words. - Have students listen and repeat. (chorally – individually) - Teacher checks and corrects the pronunciation.

Activity 1: Read & underline all the festival activities (a/p. 37) - Teacher has students read the article individually. - Teacher explains the activity using the example. - Have students underline all the festival activities. - Teacher checks the answers and gives give feedback. Answer: + buy fruits and flowers. + decorate their houses. + buy a special tree (peach trees with pink flowers, apricot trees with yellow flowers). + cleans their house. + visit their family and friends. + wear new clothes. + get lucky money. + watch lion dances and fireworks. 2. Activity 2: Read &write “Yes” or “No” (exercise b/p. 37) - Teacher explains the activity using the example. - Have students work in pairs to read the sentences, then write "Yes" or "No." - Call some pairs to give answer in front of the class. - Teacher checks the answers and gives feedbacks. IV- Post reading : Writing Write similar messages about the Mid-Autumn Festival. - Have Ss look at the messages and identify the emojis (pictures) meanings.

Answer: a – karaoke c – party e – money b – happy d – Vietnam f – fireworks - Teacher explains that students will have a written conversation using messages in English and emojis. - Have student A write a greeting to student B on a piece of paper and then hand it to them. - Have student B reply about the Mid-Autumn Festival and hand the paper back. Continue in this manner with the pair passing the paper between them. - Have some students read their messages in front of the class - T gives feedback and checks spelling if necessary. Answer: A: Hi, how are you? B: I’m great. It’s Mid-Autumn Festival here in Vietnam. A: What’s that? B: Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional festival in Vietnam. A: What do people do for Mid-Autumn Festival? B: Before Mid-Autumn Festival, people buy lanterns and moon cakes. During Mid-Autumn Festival, people give the moon cakes to friends and family. They watch lion dances and parades. A: Sounds fun! B: It’s great. I love it! V. Homework - Write a paragraph about activities you do in your favorite festival. - Prepare new lesson: Unit 4 – Review.
  11. LESSON PLAN 8: Planning date: 4/12/2022 Period 37 UNIT 8: FESTIVALS IN VIETNAM Lesson 3: A closer look 2 A. AIMS 1. Knowledge. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - review the simple and compound sentences - write compound sentences using conjunctions and, but, or, yet, so and conjunctive adverbs however, nevertheless, moreover, therefore, otherwise - write complex sentences using subordinators because, if, when, while, although, even though 2. Ability: - Students can develop the ability to cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems - Students can improve their reading and writing skills. 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities.. - Students can show their kindness to their hometown, country. B. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, E-book, personal computer, projector/TV. C. PROCEDURES * Warm up: Brainstorming conjunctions
  12. I. Presentation 1. The simple and compound sentences * Set the scene - T. gives 2 sentences: 1. My mother likes cooking very much 2. While my mother was cooking in the kitchen, my father came. - Ss work in pair to discuss which sentence is a simple sentence and which sentences is compound sentence - T. asks Ss to answer 1. simple sentence 2. compound sentence - T. asks Ss how to know simple and compound sentences - Ss answer - T. checks + A simple sentence is one independent clause + A compound sentence is two or more independent clauses joined together. a. Exercise 1 (1-P.51) - Ss work in pair to do exercise 1 - T. asks Ss to answer - T. checks Key: 1. S 2. C 3. C 4. S 5. S - T. explains how to connect each pair sentences with an appropriate conjunctions to make compound sentence. Each clause is of equal importance and could stand alone. They can be joined with conjunctions and, but , or, so, yet or conjunctive adverbs however, nevertheless, moreover, therefore, otherwise. b. Exercise 2 (2-P.51)

During Tet, Vietnamese people buy all kinds of sweets, and they make chung cakes as well. 3. The Hung King’s sons offered him many special foods, but Lang Lieu just brought him a chung cake and a day cake. 4. To welcome Tet, we decorate our house with peach blossoms, or we can buy a mandarin tree for alonger lasting display. 5. The Huong Pagoda festival is always crowded, yet we like to go there to pray for good fortune and happiness. c. Chu Dong Tu and Giong are both legendary saints; however/ nevertheless, they are worshipped for different things. 2. Tet is the most important festival in Viet Nam; therefore, most Vietnamese return home for Tet. 3. Tet is a time for us to worship our ancestors; moreover, it is also a time for family reunion. 4. The Khmer believe they have to fl oat lanterns; otherwise, they may not get good luck. 5. The Hung King Temple Festival was a local festival; nevertheless/ however, it has become a public holiday in Viet Nam since 2007. 2. Complex sentences * Set the scene

AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1.Knowledge By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - communicate with friends well about the topic Khemer festival - Vocabulary: relating to the topic “Festivals in Viet Nam” Bamboo archway,Green rice flakes,coconut,clasped hands,floating lanterns - Grammar: Present simple 2. Ability Communication, co- operation , self-learning capacity, creative capacity - improve the use of English, speaking and listening skills. 3. Quality - Students can be aware of protecting traditional festivals in Viet Nam. - love their country and vietnameses people. 4 skill : listening and speaking II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers III. PROCEDURES 1. pre- listening Warm up: *Chatting. - Have you ever been to Soc Trang province? - Have you ever seen a festival by the Khmer?

  18. Planning date: 5/12/2022 Period 39 UNIT 5: FESTIVALS IN VIET NAM Lesson 5: Skills 1 I. AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1.Knowledge By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Read for specific information about festivals. - Talk about a festivals. 2. Ability Communication, co- operation , self-learning capacity, creative capacity 3. Quality - Students can be aware of protecting traditional festivals in Viet Nam. - love their country and vietnameses people. 4 skill : reading and speaking II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers III. PROCEDURES 1. pre-reading warm-up - T asks Ss to practice in small groups, look at the pictures and answer the questions, but don’t check the answers with the class. - Ss work in groups to discuss the answer. - Ss share answers with the whole class. - T leads in new lesson. - SS Work in groups to answer the following questions. - What are the people doing in each picture? - Who do people worship at the Hung King Temple Festival?

Explain that to skim, they must move their eyes very quickly over the text to get a general idea of the subject. - Ss skim the passages individually. - T give feedbacks and comments. 2. Now read the information about these festivals to check your ideas. 3. Find words/ phrases in the passages that have similar meaning to these words or phrases. The Hung King Temple festival takes place from the 8th to the 11th day of the third lunar month. 2. Incense, specialities such as chungcakes, daycakes and five-fruit trays. 3. Because there are many joyful activities including bamboo swings, lion dances, wrestling and xoansinging performances. 4. People join the procession and make offerings of incense, flowers, fruit and candles. 5. Ss’ own answers 3 post-reading (speaking) . Speaking - T asks Ss to work in pairs, choosing one of the two places: Huong Pagoda or Hung King Temple to go to. Ss do it.
