  1. Planning date: UNIT 1: FREE TIME Lesson 1.1: Vocabulary and Reading (Pages 4 & 5) Period 2nd I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: 1. Knowledge and skills - learn and use vocabulary for leisure activities. - practice reading for specific information. - present their ideas about hobbies. - improve reading skills. 2. Competences: - improve Ss’ communication, collaboration, analytical, and critical thinking skills. 3. Attributes: - have healthy lifestyles. - spend free time in a good way. II. TEACHING AIDS. - Teacher’s aids: Student’s book and Teacher’s book, class CDs, DCR– Phần mềm tương tác trực quan, DHA – Ứng dụng trò chơi tương tác,) TV screen, PowerPoint slides. - Students’ aids: Student’s book, Workbook, Notebook. III. PROCEDURES A. Warm up: 5 minutes Let’s talk: Look at the title of the unit and the picture. What do the girls like doing in their free time? What do you do in your free time? How often do you do it? - Ask Ss to work in pairs, look at the title and the picture and answer the questions (using the DCR/ PPTs slides). - Call some pairs to give their answers. - Give feedback.   2. I. Pre-Reading Activity 1: Number the pictures. Circle the name of the person who prefers indoor activities: Will, Jess, or Peter. - Ask Ss to name some indoor activities they know. - Ask Ss to read the passages and circle the name of the person who prefers indoor activities according to what they read. - Pick some Ss to give the answer and show the evidence to justify their answer. - Check Ss’ answers. Answer Keys: Jess (Passage 2: I like reading books, chatting with my friends online, and doing crafts in my bedroom.) Activity 2: Now, read and draw lines to match the phrases and the person they describe.

  4. Period 3 UNIT 1: FREE TIME Lesson 1.2 – Grammar, pages 5 & 6 A. Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to 1. Language knowledge/ skills - review and practice and use Verbs expressing preference + gerunds correctly 2. Competences - improve Ss’ communication, collaboration, analytical, critical thinking skills. 3. Attributes - have healthy lifestyles. - spend free time in a good way. B. Teaching aids and materials - Teacher’s aids: Student’s book and Teacher’s book, class CDs, DCR– Phần mềm tương tác trực quan, DHA – Ứng dụng trò chơi tương tác, projector / interactive whiteboard /TV (if any), PowerPoint slides. - Students’ aids: Student’s book, Workbook, Notebook. C. Procedures I. Warm up: Unscramble the sentences: -Ask Ss to work in pairs to order the words to make complete sentences about the people in the reading passages. 1. loves/sports/Will/and/playing/hanging/with/ his/out/friends. 2.   7. UNIT 1: FREE TIME Lesson 1.3 – Pronunciation + Speaking 1. Objectives By the end of this lesson, students will be able to 1.1. Language knowledge/ skills - practice the pronunciation of "s" which can sound like /s/ or /z/ - talk about leisure activities, likes / dislikes using verbs expressing preference + gerunds 1.2. Competences - improve Ss’ communication, collaboration, analytical, critical thinking skills. 1.3. Attributes - have healthy lifestyles. - spend free time in a good way. 2. Teaching aids and materials - Teacher’s aids: Teacher’s aids: Student’s book and Teacher’s book, class CDs, DCR, DHA, TV screen. - Students’ aids: Student’s book, Workbook, Notebook. 3. Procedures A. Warm up: Memorising Games - T divides class into 2 teams - T asks Ss to look at 8 pictures in 1 minute and remember all the activities in those pictures. - T sets the time and gets the sts to come to the board and write the activities as many as possible. Which group with more correct words will win. -T leads to the lesson. B. New lesson I. Pronunciation 1. Listen to the words and figure out the rules of pronouncing the final sound /s/. - Tell Ss that at the end of words, "s" can sound like /s/ or /z/. - Give some examples: /s/ /z/ Likes, hates, cakes Loves ,prefers, plays - Ask Ss to listen to the words and focus on the underlined letters (using the DCR/PPT slides). sports, books, games, friends -Ask Ss to figure out the rules of pronouncing the final sound /s/. /s/ /z/ When the words end with /p/, /k/, /t/. When the words end with other sounds. - Play the recording, using DCR. (Task c - page 6 ). - Ask Ss to listen and pay attention to the "/s/" or "/z/" sound, write "/s/" or "/z/" after each word. - Have Ss make comments on the sound of the underlined words. - Play the recording again, have Ss listen and check. 2. Listen and write "/s/" or "/z/" after each word.

While-speaking 2.1 : Picture Cue Drills - Use real pictures or DCR to show the task. - Demonstrate the activity by asking and answering with a student.

Suggested conversation - Do you prefer playing sports or games? - I prefer playing sports. - What sports do you like playing? - I love playing badminton. 2.2 Survey Task a: Your local youth center wants to find out what activities are popular. Complete the survey with your own information. In fours: Ask your friends about their preferred activities and complete the survey. - Introduce the task. - Give Ss some times to complete the “Me” column with their own information. - Divide the class in groups of four. - Ask Ss to ask the friends in their group to get information to complete the survey. - Go around and help if necessary. - Pick some Ss to present the result. 3. Post-speaking Which activities should your youth center have next summer? - Ask Ss to discuss in their group and decide activities the youth center should have next summer. (based on the survey results of the whole class) - Pick some Ss to share their ideas. - Give feedback. C.
